2025 Ontario Election

So it would be the death penalty for provincial, not federal, crimes.

Murder? Life sentence.

Going 45 km/h on a city street that's a 40 km/h limit? Death.

Again, how do we expect the electorate to understand our divisions of government when our leaders clearly don't ?

One interesting note from the election, living in Vanier I never saw a campaign sign for the PC candidate for my riding. The LPO candidate won as expected, but the NDP and Greens still each had signs out.

Wasn’t too hard to vote last night. Expected results. My wife and I cancelled out each others vote lol.

I will be interested to see what the voter turnout looked like.

I was watching CHCH in Hamilton last night and they said voter turnout was around 27%.

Two of the 3 panelists were saying Mr. Ford has no mandate as he only got 12% of all eligible voters....

Im well out of tune with Ont politics but that looks like a big solid majority to me ... Is it not ?

Key take always.

Ford won a strong majority but didn’t gain any more seats (possible that they could win 1 more) Crombie lost her seat but the liberals doubled their seats and now have party status.

I think he got what he wanted which was a win before a federal election (the calculation is that he did not want to risk having an election if PP was PM) and a win while the conditions were right with him taking on Trump.

It’s a third majority so definitely a win in any book.

I hadn’t seen the turn out results yet but that is pretty crappy.

But I mean that's not even a slim majority. That's pretty healthy, no ?

Like I said outsider looking in here. Did his pop vote go up or down ?

By total numbers he was getting more votes this time than last election. Percentage of popular vote is where the spin happens.

Interestingly, how terrible is the Liberal support outside the downtown Toronto and public service heavy Ottawa when they're 2nd place in popular vote (fairly close to Ford), their leader can't win her seat and they end up barely an official party.

Rosemary Barton is talking about "being careful" for the next election... it would be almost unprecedented, as is this win, if Ford ended up with a 4th straight majority government. She can't handle the fact that people like him in Ontario and is basically the defacto PM right now countering Trump.

Sure. Of course it is. And looks like he has a gain of 1 seat as of this morning. But I’m not sure Barton is not giving him the win in that clip just that there was an underlying message Ford should take heed of.

They were expecting a seat count in the upper 80s if I recall. But he’s in a healthy majority regardless.

I think he grabbed 43% of the popular vote. Likely an increase. but 27% is not a very good voter turnout and if Bruce is correct, 12% of eligible voters is what gave him his mandate.

The best part was watching her exploding about his lack of true mandate and the seat ticker below her adds a seat to Ford, 79 > 80 while shes going on. 😆

My home riding of Kingston also went Lib.

I will have to look at the Ontario map...

If she is saying that then she’s in denial.

The mandate exists. If Ontario wanted something different they would have bothered to show up at the polls. I always interpret voter apathy with being mostly fine with what is in place.
